Life after deployment can be difficult to manage, especially for veterans who have been through a traumatic experience while serving our country. The risks of addiction and alcoholism as well as mental illness increase greatly for veterans due to these negative experiences during their time in the military. Sometimes it’s the challenging transition into civilian life that can impact them. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse “More than one in ten veterans have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Although the journey through recovery is different and unique to everyone, the goal after treatment is ultimately the same for all, which is to maintain sobriety. Once an individual takes that leap of faith, choosing to seek treatment and successfully completing their program, that idea of “what now” can be weary to most. The initial stages of recovery are so fragile because the transition from treatment to a normal lifestyle is not easy. Life in recovery may seem daunting, especially after being sheltered at a treatment facility, but today we will discuss the reality of life after treatment, ways to stay motivated, and things to look forward to.

Telehealth is defined as the provision of healthcare remotely by means of telecommunications technology and became widely popular during the Covid pandemic. Here at Banyan we utilize this service at several of our facilities and have seen a great benefit of it to our patients and staff. There is a large volume of research reporting that clinical outcomes with telehealth are as good as or better than usual care and that telehealth improves intermediate outcomes and satisfaction.
